Botanical Name: Althaea officinalis
Origin: Poland
Production: Marshmallow is a flowering perennial with fuzzy, soft leaves and white, sometimes purple flowers. All parts of the plant are edible. The mucilage-rich roots are harvested in late fall, before the ground freezes.
Qualities: Throughout history, the marshmallow plant has been used in various forms, medicinally and as a food. Presently, it is most commonly taken as a tea or topically to treat an array of ailments. Marshmallow root provides natural mucilage that soothes and moistens sore throats, dry coughs, heartburn, stomach ulcer symptoms, diarrhea, and constipation. It can also be used externally as a calming poultice for wounds and burns.
Common Use: Marshmallow root can be made into a pleasant tea by itself or blended with herbs such as ginger root, licorice root, echinacea purpurea, orange peel, or chamomile, for a soothing tea that supports respiratory functions. It can also be used to make oils, lotions, and salves, as well as desserts and candies.
Storage: Store in a cool, dark, dry location in a sealed container.
Safety: We recommend that you consult with a qualified healthcare practitioner before using any herbal products, particularly if you are pregnant, nursing, or on any medications.

Marshmallow Root
It's quite enjoyable as tea. I pre soak two tablespoonsevery day in a small Masson jar. Come home and enjoy a tea. Using it too take the redness out of my cheeks.
Nice quality
The cut of this is a bit too fine for my tea because I want to eat it when I finish drinking my tea but would be good if you want to grind it a little more to make capsules.
Great quality and great price!
I was pretty pleased to find this supplier and this product! After looking at a dozen organic suppliers across Canada and the US, most of whom were either out of stock or selling at costs out of my reach, I finally found Organic Matters (and they're local to me, which was as important to me as an affordable price for the product).I really needed marshmallow root to begin long-term healing of some serious and chronic gastrointestinal health concerns that probiotics and fermented foods just weren't helping. As a person with a warm and dry constitution who is prone to inflammation, marshmallow is a great herb for its moistening and cooling properties, especially for those of us who really mind the summertime heat. After drinking a litre of the cold-infused root daily for two weeks I saw more than just my gut health improve. I also saw a significant tinea versicolor outbreak clear up far more quickly than any external topical medication has ever addressed. There were other positive physical and emotional effects of drinking the infusion, though they're all subtle. I will continue to drink a little of the cold infusion every day for at least another month and a half and then reassess if I need to continue with drinking the root tea and combine it with peppermint, calendula, and/or peppermint.
