Botanical Name: Cannabis sativa
Hemp is one of the hardiest and most versatile plants. It can be refined into a variety of commercial items including paper, textiles, biodegradable plastics, paint, insulation, biofuel, animal feed and human nutrition. Scientists believe that humans have cultivated hemp for its nutritional, medicinal, and industrial properties for more than ten thousand years and it is widely considered to be one of humanity’s first domesticated crops.
Production: our raw, unrefined hemp oil is obtained by simply cold pressing whole hemp seeds (at temperatures below 49°C or 120°F) assuring optimal preservation of nutritional value and flavor.
Qualities: hemp oil is of high nutritional value as it contains about 80% as essential fatty acids (EFAs) such as linoleic acid, stearidonic acid, vitamins and antioxidants. The proportions of linoleic acid (LA) and alpha-linolenic acid (ALA) in 1Tbsp per day (15 ml) of hempseed oil easily provides human daily requirements for EFAs. Its 3:1 ratio of omega-6 to omega-3 perfectly matches the balance required by the human body and is thought to improve cardiovascular disorders and boost immunity as well as regulate intestinal flora.
Common use: its pleasantly mild and nutty taste and exceptional nutritional density makes it an outstanding choice as a low heat cooking oil and great in salad dressings. Hemp oil has a composition similar to skin lipids and is therefore an excellent natural emollient and moisturizer, counteracting aging and dry skin.
Storage: it is recommended to store in cool (refrigerated or frozen), dark and airtight conditions in order to minimize oxidation and prolong its shelf life.
