Qualities: Irish Sea Moss is a type of red sea algae, its principal constituent being the polysaccharide carrageenan which gives Irish Moss its signature gelling qualities. It is important to note that "carrageenan", which is industrially produced and widely used in food production, is an extract of Irish moss, and has different qualities than the whole food, which is naturally balanced.
Common Use: Irish moss has a long history of medicinal use for respiratory and digestive ailments and known to contain Vitamins A, E, F and K, calcium, potassium, and sulfur. In order to most benefit from its healthful qualities, Irish moss is commonly made into a gel and then incorporated into smoothies, vegan desserts, and traditional Jamaican drinks.
Irish Moss Gel Recipe: Starting with the dry leaves, remove any foreign material such as shells or discolored leaves. Rinse the leaves well as they can have sand and salt stuck to the surface or rolled up into the dried creases. Place the cleaned leaves in a bowl, cover with filtered water, and soak for 8 hours or longer. Once soaked, the material will be rubbery and smooth. Rinse again and place the clean, salt-free leaves in a saucepan. Cover with water, bring to a gentle boil, and simmer for 12-15 mins. Once it is cool enough for your blender blend on high until smooth. Pour the mixture into a jar and refrigerate. As the liquid cools, it will thicken into a mildly flavored gel that blends easily into drinks and smoothies.
Storage: Store in a cool, dark, dry place in an airtight container. The gel should be refrigerated.Safety: Seaweeds contain naturally high levels of iodine. This product is harvested from the sea. Consumption of this product may cause a serious or life-threatening reaction in persons with allergies to fish or shellfish.

Sea moss
I made a batch of Sea moss gel and I’ve been putting it in my smoothies for breakfast. It’s a great way to disguise the taste (which is not all that bad anyways) in my opinion this is a great product and I will purchase again.

Health and medicine cabinet
I plan to use this for general health and to have on hand in case of lung infection. Haven’t tried it yet.
