Production: Dates are, by general consensus, the world’s oldest known fruit. They have been grown throughout the Middle East and North Africa for over 6,000 years, a dietary staple and incorporated into almost every meal or eaten alone. Ancient cultures referred to date palms as “the tree of life”. Traditionally, dates were used to break fasts as they have high carbohydrate and sugar contents, immediately raising blood sugars and providing instantaneous energy. Medjool dates are one of the largest dates and considered far superior to any other type of date in terms of flavor and texture.
Qualities: One of the most popular and versatile dried fruits, dates are an endless source of nutrients and an excellent sugar alternative. Chewy and sweet, they are packed with fiber (a ½ cup of dates is approximately 22% of daily fiber intake) and potassium, magnesium, and manganese.
Common Use: Dates are excellent in both sweet and savory dishes. Try making your own energy balls, or in a salad with walnuts, Gorgonzola, and date pieces.

Delicious, but harder than expected

I had been hoping these dates would be a lot softer than they are. To be frank these are the hardest dates we’ve ever gotten in a case. I have to use a knife to cut them open instead of being about to open them with my hands like usual. They are not too hard to enjoy eating however — pleasant.y chewy and very delicious. On the plus side, not a single one of them has been moldy on the inside. I would definitely prefer dates to be harder like this and completely mold free. I can recommend this product, providing people understand that they will not be the super soft medjools you might be expecting. Perhaps this varies case by case (pun intended) or by time of year. We use whole dates like this for eating not cooking, usually have a couple after dinner as a sweet treat. So, yes, a little disappointed in the texture but will absolutely order again because dates are the food of gods and these are delicious.

Excellent product

This is such a great company. The quality of their products is always excellent and the medjool dates are no exception. They have all been large, plump, moist and sweet. I use them chopped in baking, fresh (whole, halved, or chopped) as an addition to different cooked dishes, an ingredient to dry foods like granola and trail mix, and "as is" for a delicious snack. They also make wonderful date paste, but OM sells a great prepared date paste as well! F. S.
