ORGANIC SESAME OIL, toasted, expeller pressed
Botanical Name: Sesamum indicum
Production: This oil is obtained by pressing carefully toasted, whole sesame seeds and then filtering the liquid to remove undesirable particles resulting in a dark brown oil with the strong aroma and flavor of toasted sesame seeds. This oil is expeller pressed and it is not refined.
Qualities: Sesame seed nutrients and benefits are still present in toasted sesame oil. Compared to raw sesame oil it contains primarily polyunsaturated (Omega- 6) and monounsaturated fat. However, the antioxidant activity of the natural occurring sesame lignans might be enhanced.
Numerous health benefits have been attributed to sesame lignans including blood cholesterol reduction, oxidative stress attenuation, lipid metabolism modification, anti-inflammatory effects, and vitamin-E enhancement, among others. Tocopherols and other vitamin-E precursors are other nutrients present in this oil.
Common Use: Toasted sesame oil is essential in oriental dishes. Its subtle nutty flavor allows this oil to be used both as a cooking oil and a condiment. The oil offers a way to add and enhance flavors to products such as marinades and salad dressings. It is best for low to medium heat, including stir-frying, baking, dipping, dressings, or drizzled on finished dishes
Storage: Toasted sesame oil is a very stable oil due to its strong antioxidant activity and the sesame lignans modification during the toasting of the seed. As a general rule, store in a cool, dry, dark place in a sealed container.
